USDA Surplus Commodities Food Program
Every month, David Jaggers, owner of Fidelity Moving Company, donates a truck and driver to pick up our USDA surplus commodities from the Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County's Food Bank. Volunteers, staff, and clients unload the cases. This food feeds almost 1,000 households each month in Barstow and the surrounding unincorporated areas.
If you are a low-income individual or family, you may sign up to receive commodities once each month. Call Desert Manna to see when the commodities will be distributed to sign up.
Utilities, rental, and low-income weatherization assistance
Desert Manna administers Southern California Edison's Energy Assistance Fund. Eligible households can receive up to $100 credit on their Edison bill once a year (as funding permits).We can also help you apply for the Low-Income Weatherization Program. This program is through the Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County and provides free weatherization services for low-income households (either renters or owners).We can also help you apply for HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program) which is administered through the Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County. HEAP helps with gas and electric bills.For other utilities and rental assistance, please call Dante at High Desert Domestic Violence Programs at 760-475-7074 or send her an email at dante@hddvp.org. She comes to Barstow once a week and you must call and make an appointment. Before your appointment, please go to www.hddvp.org and download the application. Please do not leave more than one message.
Emergency Food Boxes
You can receive an emergency food box once every month. Come to Desert Manna Monday - Friday between 9-3:30pm to receive your box.
During the Commodities distribution days, we do not do Emergency Food Boxes. Instead, you are encouraged to sign-up to receive a Commodities box.
